I've lived through enough bloodshed. Let me have my peace.

Lyonaux Courliemont. Only child of the late Jean-Paltroix and Emellie de Courliemont. Once of a lesser noble house under the Haillenarte banner, at a yet-grown age, Lyon's world would spiral out of control.

What became of the Courliemonts, for Lyon to find himself in a war-ravaged cityscape all on his own? What circumstances occurred to find himself under another house's banner? And why will he not speak of his past so, growing distant at the very thought?

Backstory

Lyonaux was the result of a noble man's defiance to succumb to social pressure, and marry upward into the world of nobility. Born under the banners of a lesser noble house, the Courliemonts, and a working class family, the Saltorianes, Lyonaux knew of a loving, albeit withdrawn, life.

The only child of the couple, living in Hemlock before the great freeze brought the Western Highland to its knees, Lyonaux found little company with fellow children his age. A rambunctious youth, he would ofttimes find himself out in the wilds, eager to find his next big adventure; much to the apprehension of his mother.

A brilliant spirit that nurtured a gentle heart, Lyonaux held a great love and respect to his parents. While Jean-Paltroix would often find himself out of the hearth, due to his service to House Haillenarte as the "Rose Dragoon," he nevertheless found time to be present in Lyonaux's life. Often encouraging the young boy's antics, Jean-Paltroix would stoke the fires of ambition in the young man's life.

Meanwhile, Emellie, being the homebody mother, remained the most prevalent figure in Lyonaux's life. When not tending to the homely duties, or scolding the young man for yet another pair of ruined trousers, Emellie would often take Lyonaux into Ishgard; not only to show the young man the capital his father so proudly served, but to encourage a greater love for the people within. At nights, Emellie would sing for the discontent and downtrodden at the Forgotten Knight, and with her melodies would she not only brighten the faces of the patrons, but inspire her own son into more gentle pastimes.

However, nothing good lasts forever, especially not in a city of perpetual war. When Emellie began to grow too sick to leave their house, the outings to Ishgard would completely stop. When Emellie began to grow too sick to leave the bed, Lyonaux found himself too wrought with worry to continue his wilds adventures. When Jean-Paltroix didn't return home from an expedition in the Western Highlands, there all Lyonaux knew would shatter.

For one who perishes not to the flames of the Horde deserves less and little more, especially when leaving behind meager kin. The tragedy struck, upon being told by a Knight of House Haillenarte, that Jean-Paltroix's armor had been found in pieces, with signs of teeth marks deep in the metal. Consumed by a Yeti, so claimed a survivor of the expedition.

A father consumed, and a mother who ultimately succumbed not to her sickness, but to the heartbreak of loss, Lyonaux would be forced to turn to Ishgard now, in a bid to the Houses his parents once stood proud under. Yet little kindness would be afforded to a man that hadn't even reached adulthood yet. The Courliemonts, nursing a rage towards Jean-Paltroix for failing to marry higher up, would completely disavow the boy. The Saltorianes, meanwhile, had found ruin over wealth with the marriage; a bitter result of House Courliemont's loathing. They couldn't help the boy, even if they wanted to.

So was Lyonaux left to fester by himself in the Brume, barely able to live between the cold stones and what little time he could afford within the Forgotten Knight's own inn, Cloud Nine. The joys he once had over families dinners, turned to lonely helpings of days-old bread and plain stews. The nights spent listening to his mother's songs or his father's legends, turned to mopping up sick for coin more meager than his meals.

So grew a loathing in the young man, not just to the families that failed him so in his hour of need, but to the very nation his mother and father were once so proud to be a part of. So would a shining heart dull, that comforting warmth turned into cold survival. So would he cry out for vengeance, to debase those that wronged him so.

And so would that hatred near birth a beast, a man on the brink of losing all his parents nurtured in him. Yet despite it all, hope would yet linger. For not even with those fires stoked by ambitious devils, would they burn so fiercely that they would turn to ash the man he was meant to be.

What happened between the years he served as the young man, to the older Elezen he is now, Lyonaux dares not say. His tongue stills, his eyes ice over, and his very expression turns to abject indifference. But one truth remains. Despite everything, he grew into a man of kindness and honor, over spiteful and filled with loathing.

Hooks

Gridania

Lyonaux often finds himself in the Black Shroud, and subsequently Gridania, the most out of all of Eorzea. Whether it be within the markets, perusing fresh produce to figure out his next culinary endeavor, or by the waters to sketch out a scene before his mind's eye, you're like to find him somewhere about this woodland society.

Training

Despite desiring a more peaceful lifestyle now, there's no denying the Ishgardian in the man; ever does he seek to keep himself honed to his abilities and skills as a Dragoon, taking every dual as a chance to see where he flourishes, and where he falters. It likely won't take too much coercion to get a fight out of the man, as long as it's on friendly terms.

Limited Aether Manipulation

While not so completely incapable as, say, a Garlean, Lyonaux seems to have limited capabilities when it comes to aethetic manipulation. Outside of trained physical manifestations that most any Dragoon should know, he seems incapable of most any form of magics; the most damning being a complete lack of teleportation capabilities. As such, the man will be seen walking instead of using Aethernets, or riding long boat or airship trips to lands more distant... if he doesn't let his stomach dissuade him.

Beastly Appetite

Despite a fit and lean form like many Elezens have, Lyonaux clearly has an appetite that can put even fully grown, sea-faring Roe men to shame. He'll often order something edible multiple times while out, or take some sort of snack with him. Indeed, it seems like nothing truly ever satiates the man, even should he eat something more heavy like meats or stews. Sometimes it seems to get so bad, he trembles as if starved...

Bizarre Aura

There's no denying the man is kind and his demeanor polite. Yet, there's something strange about his aether, as if it's not quite... right. Depending on the person's intelligence on such matters, it may be more or less apparent to certain individuals, but regardless, it almost feels like something dark is looming over Lyonaux.

About OP

The name's Edwynn! I'm a 30 year old dude [He/Him] that's trying his best to get out of his writing ruts, and to flourish not just creatively, but socially and physically, as well!

I started playing the game in July 24, 2019, after having been a WoW player for a few years, and had been growing increasingly more disappointed with every update WoW gave. After deciding to give FFXIV a try, I simply haven't looked back; I have thousands of hours in the game, and find much joy in doing a multitude of things; one of which, of course, being Roleplay!

For a while, I didn't partake in the RP scene, as I had issues thinking of Lyonaux as anything but someone important to the main story of FFXIV. But, over time, as I made more friends and interacted with more people, I began to grow Lyonaux out anew; keeping some of his backstory, but ensuring in works outside of the established story of the game!

While I still have much to learn, as much of my RP experience is Discord/Long Form based, I'm enjoying learning how to actively RP in a game scenario. And I hope to get to meet more people along the way, as well as further improve upon my writing!

Roleplay Information

  • I'm not the best with walk-up RP, unless I'm already in an RP venue setting. As such, I do request, should you have an interest in interacting with my character out in the open, to ask first!

  • Casual RP is usually fine! For darker or more triggering themes, however, please ask.

  • I will absolutely not tolerate any sort of Queerphobia in RP. In a great big fantasy world, choosing that to be the overarching conflict doesn't sit very well with me.

  • I may be easier to get ahold of in Discord, especially if I'm doing a lot of duties back to back. Feel free to ask for my handle!

  • I'm usually all over the place, so it may be hard to find me in-game on a whim. Send me a tell if your curious about anything!
